Mr. Newton "Bill" Gwynn Holland, Jr, 78, of Statesville, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013, at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Holland was born in Iredell County on July 27, 1935 and was the son of the late Newton G. Holland, Sr. and Leota Hedrick Holland. He attended Iredell County schools and was married to Jettie Ann Shoemaker Holland, who survives. Mr. Holland was self-employed with Holland Brothers Tree Service and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Along with his parents, Mr. Holland was also preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Columbus, Leroy Baxter Holland, one sister, Maureen Holland Davis, and a grandson, Joseph Shane Holland. In addition to his wife of 57 years, Jettie Ann Shoemaker, he is survived by one son, Rev. Roger Holland (Billie) and one daughter, Terry Holland Minnish (James Queen) along with three granddaughters, Misti Minnish, April Loggins, and Annette Minnish. He is further survived by two brothers, Clay Franklin and Lloyd Nolan Holland and three great-grandsons, Shane Balkcum, Gabriel Loggins, and Austin Murphy. Funeral services for Mr. Holland will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Dellinger and Rev. Otis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Shane Balkcum, Gabriel Loggins, Gary Edwards, Gary Wooten, Frank Bottoms, and Marty Holland. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Bottoms and Kenny Dellinger. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund, 137 Pulpwood Lane, Statesville, NC 28625.
