Beverly Hedrick: Devoted wife, caring mother, affectionate sister, loving daughter, and friend to many. “When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer, you beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live.” We believe that God chooses his angels, and he chose a very special one on 9/24. Bev is survived by her loving husband, Ed, and her two adoring sons, Travis (Lauren) and Tanner. She is also survived by her father, Maynard Self and loving step-mother Brenda, as well as her mother, Ruth Self, her brother, Billy Self, and her sister, Janice Self. She served at Mitchell Community College for 23 years, and helped many people achieve a higher education. She was an avid runner, completing nine full marathons, numerous half marathons, and many others. “Momma” loved the ocean, but most of all, she loved being there with family. Some other interests include: Christmas, QVC, gardening and M&Ms! Above all else, she was a devoted Christian, with an unwavering faith in God. She cherished her “unforced rhythms of grace,” and never questioned God’s will. Throughout her battle, she inspired everyone around her with her courage, grace, and poise. Although Bev is temporarily gone, she will live in our hearts forever, and soon enough we will be reunited in eternity. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Hospice Care of Iredell County, the Sarcoma Foundation of America, or The Simstein Memorial Cancer Fund. Services will be held on Monday, September 28 at 1pm at Mt. Bethel UMC with Rev. Lynn Lepley officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
