Beulah Viola (Welborn) Gettys

Mrs. Beulah Viola Welborn Gettys, 82, of Statesville, died Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the Gordon Hospice House.  Mrs. Gettys was born in Iredell County on January 2, 1934, the daughter of the late Parks Welborn and Ida Mae Lloyd Welborn.  She attended Scotts School and was married to Billy B. Gettys. Mrs. Gettys was a sewing machine operator and seamstress at Hedrick Mfg., Trailblazer and retired from Klear Knit, Inc.   She loved sewing for her children and grandchildren who knew her as “Popsicle Grandma” and “Grandma G”.  Christmas was always a special time filled with the love of family and friends, great food and visits from Santa.  Grandma G always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a wonderful cook and baker and is fondly remembered for her red velvet cake.  She also enjoyed crafting, painting and cross stitching.  Mrs. Gettys was a member of Living Word Ministries and enjoyed going to church while her health permitted.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert P. and Tommy E. Welborn along with two step-sons, Gary Gettys and Jeffrey Gettys. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Carolyn West (Ron) and Linda Clodfelter (Tay) and one son, Larry Brooks (Susan), all of Statesville.  She is also survived by one step-daughter, Barbara Childers (Don) of Statesville, one sister, Daisy Mae Chatham of Stony Point along with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Beulah Gettys will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Living Word Ministries with Rev. James Lewis and Rev. Chris Fitzgerald officiating.  The family will visit with friends from 12:00 until 1:00 PM at the church.  Burial will follow in the Stony Point Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will include Jeffrey West, Michael Blayne Dye, Drew Pyrant, Jason Brooks, Benjamin Lackey, Mike Gibson, Eric Lamberth, and Chris Nitzu. Memorials may be made to the Living Word Ministries Building Fund, 347 Jennings Road, Statesville, NC 28625, or to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.  The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to Mrs. Gettys’ physician, Dr. Naim Bouhussein, to the Gordon Hospice House, Dr. John Gazak and to her nurse, Lerenda Cashion, her CNA Tracey and to her wonderful neighbors, Barbara and Steve Cates for their love and care of Mrs. Gettys.
