Betty Jean Overcash

Mrs. Betty Jean Overcash, 81, of Statesville, passed away, Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mrs. Overcash was born May 6, 1933 in Cabarrus County and moved to the Mooresville area at a young age. She was the daughter of the late Fred Lee Overcash and Minnie Susanne Overcash Overcash. She attended Iredell County schools and on April 26, 1952, she was married to the late Ira Monroe “Buck” Overcash, Jr. who passed away in 2008. She was a member of Amity Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Women of the Church and acted as youth chaperone for many years. She retired from J.C. Penney Retail store, working in the children’s department in 1993 after 20 years of service. In additon to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Richard Lee, Paul Levi, Donald Walter, Billy Ray and Larry McLelland and two sisters, Gladys Viola Safriet and Mary Catherine Fleming and a son-in-law: Randy Kirkman. She is survived by one daughter, Janet O. Kirkman of Statesville, two twin sons, Marshall Kelly Overcash (Lori) of Statesville, Michael Keith Overcash of Statesville, four grandchildren, Carobeth O. Tucker (Lucas), Leslie Monroe Overcash, Brady Emma Overcash, Leah Grace Overcash, two sisters, Nancy Correll (Tom) of Mocksville, Linda Overcash of Mocksville, two brothers, Charles E. Overcash (Wayne Boles) of FL., Jerry L. Overcash of VA, three sister-in-laws, Ruby Overcash, Elizabeth Overcash, Kathy Overcash and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Richard Lee, Paul Levi, Donald Walter, Billy Ray, Larry McLelland and two sisters, Glady Viola Safriet and Mary Catherine Fleming. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Amity Lutheran Church with Rev. Gene Bruce and Rev. Dr. Larry W. Bost officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the church.
