Betty Lackey

Mrs. Betty Teague Lackey, 82 of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born, November 9, 1930 in Alexander County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph William Teague and Nettie Lona Hendren Teague who passed away March 27, 2013. She was a graduate of Statesville High School and on December 19, 1947 was married to Escar Lee lackey who survives. For many years she was office manager for Dr. John Dearman and later worked for Johnson Greenhouses. She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed reading, working the garden, and with her flowers, quilting and doing ceramics. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Teague Barker and a grandson, Christopher Matthew Lackey. In addition to her husband of 65 years, she is survived by two sons: Dennis L. Lackey and wife Sylvia of Statesville, Rick Lackey and wife Pam of Wilson, NC; one daughter, Donna Lackey Haithcox and husband Doug of Jensen Beach, Fl.; one sister, Naomi Teague Stikeleather and husband Wayne of Statesville; four granddaughters: Cameron M. Heck and husband Phillip, Melanie Lackey Raynor and husband Kent, Cinda E. Simmons and husband Michael, Erin L. Haithcox; along with four great grandchildren and three nieces. A service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 30, 2013 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mack Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Phillip Heck, Jeff Moore, Jim E. Wilson, Mike Barnett, Rick Lackey and Keith Ziglar. The family will visit with friends on Thursday morning prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 at the funeral home.
