Betty Summers Brendle, 86, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Brendle was born December 21, 1928 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late William Thomas Summers and Nora Abernathy Summers. She was a graduate of Cool Spring School and was married to James Dalton Brendle for 67 years. Betty was a long time employee of Jantzen, retiring after 28 years. She was a charter member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. She is survived by two sons, Bill Brendle (Peggy) and Ken Brendle (Arlene), both of Statesville; one granddaughter, Anna Brendle Huff (Wes) of Winston-Salem; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Finley and Sutton Huff; one nephew and three nieces, John Summers (Jenny) of Alpharetta, GA, Brenda Current Swicegood (Gary) of Harmony, Gay Current Shaver (Mike) of Statesville and Nancy Summers Cook of Statesville along with four grandnieces and two grandnephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Charles Summers, John Preston “JP” Summers and three sisters, Mary Neal Summers, Marie Summers Current and Catherine Summers Tomlin. Betty thought her greatest legacy was her two sons and daughters-in-law, her one granddaughter and her three great-grandchildren. If you had the privilege of knowing her, you knew all about her family. Her kitchen was always open. She was an excellent cook and sharing her meals with family and friends was one of her greatest joys. A private burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Saturday, February 28, 2015 prior to the service. The family will visit with friends from 11:00 -12:00 p.m. at Forest Park Presbyterian Church, Statesville with a memorial service to follow Saturday at 12 p.m. with Reverend Scott Jeffreys officiating.
