Benjamin Waring McCall, Sr., MD, 87, of Statesville, passed away at the Gordon Hospice House on Wednesday, February 21, 2018.
Dr. McCall was born in August, 1930 in Jacksonville, FL to the late John B. and Jessie Palmer McCall. Dr. McCall attended Duke University and graduated from Duke Medical School in 1955. He served in the United States Air Force prior to moving to Houston, TX, where he practiced cardiology, before retiring to Charleston, SC.
He was a lifelong golfer and enjoyed playing tennis and hunting with his family. He loved Colorado and was an avid fly fisherman. Dr. McCall was an accomplished woodworker, making furniture for all his homes as well as for his children. For many years, Dr. McCall was active with Shannon Acres Homeowners Association, serving as President.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn McCall; his children, Melanie McCall, Benjamin W. McCall, Jr. (Lynne) of Dallas, TX and Duncan McCall (Alyson) and grandsons; Andrew C. McCall and Christopher W. McCall of Dallas, TX and Alexander C. McCall of Statesville. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ellen Hardee of Jacksonville, FL as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will visit with friends Friday evening 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the home of Duncan and Alyson McCall. Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at Nicholson Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Mullis officiating.
