Mr. Beecher Hoyte Grose, Sr., 92, of Harmony, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019 at his home.
Mr. Grose was born in Iredell County on July 24, 1927 and was the son of the late Joseph Stanley Grose and Ina Steelman Grose. He was a graduate of Harmony School.
Mr. Beecher served his country during WWII with the U.S. Navy and following his active duty, he graduated from NC State University on the G.I. Bill
On December 18, 1948 he married Mary Lee Lentz and together they shared 67 years of marriage before her passing on December 12, 2016.
He worked as a self-employed dairy farmer and together with his wife and sons, they created the Ha-Ho Dairy Farm. Mr. Grose was passionately interested in conservation and young people. He and his wife worked with the local 4-H Club and taught the youth class at Sandy Springs.
Mr. Grose served on many boards that help the dairy farmer and farmers all over the area. He served as the Soil and Water District supervisor for 30 years and on the Board of Directors for the Farm Bureau. He also served on the Dairy Herd Improvement Assoc.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Beecher H. (Billy) Grose, Jr., his wife JoAnn Rhodes Grose, and Roy Neal Grose and his wife Louise Dunlap Grose along with his grandchildren David Neal Grose, Hannah Beecher Grose, John Joseph Grose, Joanna Rhetts Metzbower, and Alexandra Rhetts Kelly. He is also survived by his sister, Vera G. Webster along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Sandy Springs Baptist Church, 2930 Sandy Springs Road, Harmony, NC with Dr. Steve Shoemaker and Rev. David Kiser officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the graveside service in the cemetery for one hour.
