Barbara Peeler Gillon, 78, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Gordon Hospice House, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Gillon was born July 23, 1932 in Henderson County and is the daughter of James Augustus Peeler and the late Julie Troutman Peeler. She was a graduate of Statesville High School. On September 15, 1951, she was married to Charles Leonard Gillon, who preceded her in death on October 3, 1997. Mrs. Gillon was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and she was formerly employed as store manager with Julie Peeler LTD. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gillon was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jackie P. Conkey and Julie P. Evans. She is survived by her Sister - in-law, Brenda Gillon Zimmerman Deal (David) of Wilmington, N.C. Mrs. Gillon is survived by her son, James L. Gillon of Morganton, N.C., and his two sons, Charles J. Gillon of Salisbury and James R. Gillon of Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, CO.; son, Marc J. Gillon (Linda O.) and their two sons, Marcus R. Gillon and Evan T. Gillon, all of Statesville; daughter, Barbara E. Perry (Stephen Clyde) and two daughters, Stephanie Perry Wix (James), and Julie E. Perry and son, William L. Foust, all of Statesville; son, Charles S. Gillon (Belinda C.) and their daughters, Whitney Q., Kelsey C., and Ansley F. Gillon, all of Mooresville; son, W. Kirk Gillon of W. Palm Beach, FL, and his sons, Andr� N. and Steven N. Gillon of Lisbon, Portugal. She is also survived by a great-grandchild, Macyn G. Wix and former daughter-in-law, Rosemary F. Gillon of Morganton, N.C., along with four nieces, Mary Conkey Fullington (Kevin) and Kathleen Conkey Winkowski (Dave), Cathy Zimmerman Merritt (James) and Sandy Zimmerman Pyland (Kevin) both of Wilmington and one nephew, Chris Zimmerman of Wilmington and six great-nieces and four great-nephews. A service to celebrate the life of Barbara Gillon will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, February 26, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Church. The family will visit with friends following the service in the fellowship hall. The family will assemble on Friday and Saturday at the home of Marc and Linda Gillon, 543 Colony Ct., Statesville. The family will have a private burial prior to the memorial service.
