Barbara Ernestine (Gentry) Sharpe

Barbara Ernestine Gentry Sharpe, 78, of Statesville, went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Brian Center of Statesville.  She was born in Alleghany County on March 31, 1937 to the late Ernest Brantley Gentry and Unafa Mae Shumate Gentry. On October 16, 1954, she married Howard Stephen Sharpe, who survives.  They had celebrated 61 years of marriage before her passing.  Barbara had worked for Woolworth in Statesville until its closing.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver.  Everyone was touched by her giving nature. Survivors include her husband, Steve; a daughter, Deborah Lambert (Roger) of Statesville; a son, Allen Sharpe of Statesville; two grandchildren, Jennifer McCrary and Stephanie Cartner (Jeff); and four great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 16, 2014 at Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Steve Kirby officiating.  The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 1:50 at Nicholson Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.
