Barbara Cornell

Mrs. Barbara Jean Wilkinson Cornell, passed away, Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born August 16, 1942 in Greenville, SC and was the daughter of the late Harold Curtis Wilkinson and Virginia Pendleton Wilkinson. She was a 1964 graduate of the Women's College in Greensboro, NC and was married in November of 1963 to the late John August "Jac" Cornell, who passed away March 4, 2004. She was a payroll accountant for CARQUEST in Raleigh, NC. She attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Statesville where she helped with several projects. Mrs. Cornell was an avid reader and loved history. She was a rabid sport fan, especially of UNC basketball; and she adored her two grandsons. Mrs. Cornell is survived by one daughter, Judith Anne Cornell of Tucson, AZ, one son, John Anderson Cornell of Lexington, NC and two grandsons, Jacob Dennis Cornell and John August Cornell, both of Lexington, NC. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at Oakwood Cemetery with Reverend Brad Mullis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Casa de Los Ninos, 1001 N. First Ave., Tucson, AZ 85706. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Cornell.
