Barbara Ann Herrin Chason

Barbara Ann Herrin Chason, age 90, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023, in Hickory, N.C.
Barbara was born June 5, 1932, in Statesville, N.C. to the late Fred Erskine Herrin and Ona Estelle Furr Herrin. She attended and graduated from Mars Hill University. She was married to Charles Clayton Chason Sr. for 39 years before his passing in May 2006. Growing up in Statesville, she loved playing basketball for the team at Statesville High. Barbara enjoyed the community in her Bradley Place neighborhood in Raleigh, where she lived until 2021 when she moved to Hickory, N.C. to be closer to family. Barbara was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Raleigh where she taught Sunday school for many years and worked as a secretary for the North Carolina Baptist Convention.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Eugene Herrin and Dwight Herrin, stepsons, Gene Chason and Charles Chason Jr., nephew, Richard Herrin.
Barbara is survived by her nephews, Philip Herrin (Melanie), Scott Herrin (Tracy), and Tim Herrin (Linda): nieces, Lesley Dineen (Tim) and Marty Adams (Terry); niece in law, Sue Herrin; bonus son Christopher Wimberley and many other family and friends.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 10am to 11am at Nicholson Funeral Home, Statesville, N.C., with a graveside service to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC
