Mrs. Arcille Jurney Jessee of Statesville, passed away on Monday morning, March 9, 2015, at Brian Center after a short illness. Mrs. Jessee was born in Iredell County on May 12, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Maurice Joseph Jurney and Pearl Shaver Jurney. She was married to James E. Jessee in 1944 and he preceded her in death in 1988. She was educated in Union Grove School where she was active in school activities and especially outstanding in basketball. At age 91, Arcille lived a full, active, and independent life. Mrs. Jessee was a life time member of Moss Chapel Church and later Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She was very involved as a member of Senior Citizen Club of Mt. Vernon church, president of N.C. Extension Homemakers of Union Grove, and treasurer of Moss Chapel Church. She was very involved with the upkeep and maintenance of the church and cemetery. She, along with her late husband traveled throughout the U.S. while he was in the service and later they lived in Alexandria, VA. She was employed with U.S. Air and assisted her late husband, Rev. James E. Jessee who became a Baptist minister. In 1978, they retired to Iredell County where they built their retirement home. She is survived by two sons, Joseph M. Jessee of Olin and Jon D. Jessee of Lake Anna, VA, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Margaret Jurney Cobb of Hickory, NC and one brother, James C. Jurney of Myrtle Beach, SC. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. David Childers and Rev. Glenn Dancy officiating. The family will visit with friends starting at 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the church. Burial will follow in the Moss Chapel Church Cemetery on Mosswood Road, Olin.
