Mr. Allen Deaton Jones, 66, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Davis Regional Medical Center. Mr. Jones was born in Iredell County on May 13, 1947 and he was the son of the late Carl Allen Jones and Lorianetta "Dot" Moore Jones. He was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and he served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 thru 1972 on the USS America. Mr. Jones was self employed for 42 years as the owner/operator of a truck transport company and had worked for many trucking companies including Bowman, Tyson, and PBX. On June 30, 1968, he married Sue Elam Jones, who survives. He enjoyed being with his classmates and friends, enjoying meals and fellowship. He was the type of man that never met a stranger. He was a member of Clarksbury UMC and was a member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge #299. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a sister, Starr Jones Simmerman and a brother-in-law, John Simmerman, III. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue Elam Jones, of the home, two daughters, Carrie Jones Etzkorn (Dennis) and Amanda Jones Sharpe (John) along with one son, Al Jones (Janeen), all of Statesville. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Chelsie Jones, Nathaniel and Carly Etzkorn and Emma and Joshua Sharpe. He is further survived by a sister,-in-law, Marion Elam of the home, a brother-in-law, Edward Elam, Jr, three nephews, John Simmerman IV, Jonathon and Justin Elam and one niece, Kelly Pardue. A great-niece and great-nephew, Sadie and Elam Pardue along with many cousins also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be conducted at 3:30 PM Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Clarksbury UMC with Rev. Mandy Jones and Rev. Steve Parks officiating. Burial with military honors and Masonic rites will follow in the Clarksbury UMC Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Elam, Justin Elam, and John Simmerman IV, Bill Little, Matt Pardue, Edward Elam, Jr, and Justin Bennett.
